Taner Şahintürk was born in Castrop-Rauxel in 1978 and played football for Schalke 04 as an emerging talent, planning to become a professional athlete. After studying German philology, however, he applied at the State Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart and began to study acting. His first permanent engagement took him to the National Theatre Mannheim, where he was seen in productions of Calixto Bieito, Burkhard Kosminski and Simon Solberg. In 2011 he became a company member of the Düsseldorf Theatre, appearing in plays such as Der Prozess, Kasimir und Karoline and Wie es euch gefällt. Since the season 2013/2014 Taner Şahintürk is a company member of the Gorki. and appears in numerous productions. He works with directors such as Sebastian Baumgarten, Nurkan Erpulat, Sebastian Nübling, Oliver Frljić, Hakan Savaş Mican and Falk Richter. Şahintürk is also active in film and television including Der Kuaför aus der Keupstraße and Atlas. His current productions at the Gorki include In my Room and Berlin Oranienplatz.
