What is Studio Я? Artists from areas in crisis, who gather here, network, look for ways in and receive no space for their topics, find in STUDIO Я a place beyond all borders – not that of native language, not form, and especially not content. Here radical new forms and political theory merge. No approach is excluded, as long as it is ready to question the normative society we live in and willing to propose new approaches.
S E E Я !
In 2018 six theatre groups – the Boat People Projekt (Göttingen), Collective Ma’louba (Theater an der Ruhr, Mülheim), Exil Ensemble (Gorki Theatre), Hajusom (Hamburg), Open Border Ensemble (Münchner Kammerspiele) and the Ruhrorter (Mülheim) – held their first meeting, dedicated to questions of migration, representation, identity and seeking refuge. How can intersectional and more equitable forms of (transnational) cooperation take place in the theatre and the arts?
This continually developing network’s fourth encounter engages in an artistic exchange with the audience through a four-day public programme of discussions, artist talks, readings and performances, with a focus on future possibilities and models.
