Lamin Leroy Gibba is an actor, writer, and filmmaker. He gained early theatre experiences in the youth group of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and went on to study acting and film at The New School University in New York. Engagements followed at the Classical Theatre of Harlem, Performance Space New York, Theater Oberhausen, Kampnagel Hamburg, Ballhaus Naunynstraße, as well as in film and television productions such as the Grimme Award–winning feature film Nichts was uns passiert.
His short films include Fever Source, Cloud Zero, and Hundefreund. The latter won first prize at the International Short Film Festival Berlin, was nominated for the Lola award, and screened at festivals including Tribeca Film Festival and BFI Flare Film Festival in London. In 2023, Lamin appeared on the European Forbes 30 Under 30 list. His ARD television series Schwarze Früchte, for which he served as creator, showrunner, head writer, and lead actor — and for which he received the Blauer Panther Award — premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the German Television Series Award at the 2025 Televisonale.
His play Doppeltreppe zum Wald, developed within the Ballhaus Naunynstraße writing fellowship unconventional signs, won the Heidelberger Stückemarkt Audience Award, the SWR2 Radio Play Award, and the Second Else-Lasker-Schüler-Stückepreis. As a director, Gibba staged May Ayim’s poetry collection BLUES IN SCHWARZ WEISS at Studio Я. His play DIE ZWILLINGE, commissioned by Studio Я, was directed by Joana Tischkau.
