FATMA AYDEMİR

Fatma Aydemir (born 1986 in Karlsruhe) is a writer and columnist for the British daily newspaper Guardian. Her debut novel Ellbogen was published by Hanser Verlag in 2017. She received the Franz Hessel Prize for the novel. In 2019, Aydemir co-edited the anthology Eure Heimat ist unser Albtraum (Ullstein) with Hengameh Yaghoobifarah, with essays by 14 authors on everyday racism, anti-Semitism and nationalism, as well as ideas for better coexistence. Aydemir's second novel Dschinns, also published by Hanser in 2022, was awarded the Robert Gernhardt Prize and the LiteraTour Nord 2023 Prize and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize. The production of Dschinns premiered at the Maxim Gorki Theatre on 17 February 2023 under the direction of Nurkan Erpulat and received the Friedrich Luft Prize 2023.
