Studio Я artistic directors Murat Dikenci, Sasha Salzmann, Necati Öziri, and Tobias Herzberg are teaming up one last time to revive the Theater Is Finally Theater format. Five writers, including Sharon Dodua Otoo and Lamin Leroy Gibba will take the audience’s requests from the performances on June 4 back to their writing rooms and, literally overnight, transform those ideas into mini-plays. Five directors, including Joana Tischkau, András Dömötör and Sapir Heller will meet in the morning with the ensemble, performers, and collaborators to stage the short plays, premiering them that very same evening on the Studio stage.
24 hours, one space, too many meanings. We gather to say goodbye to what can no longer be borne: the longing for the one true form.
No character dies, only the notion that identity has a single, unambiguous address.
Studio Я — overused, underdefined, desperately overloaded. We cleanse it with sound, language, sweat, and doubt. We recite psalms and many prayers of petition, quote Butler, Marx, and our grandmothers. We speak too fast, laugh too loud, contradict ourselves in real time. For 24 hours, there is more than reconciliation, no consensus, only the fragile promise that difference doesn't have to be fatal.
We invite you to a celebration without rules. The doors remain open, the smoke drifts outside, the debate stays within the circle. Studio Я. 6 mini-plays in 24 hours. A ritual of restlessness. An attempt of utopia. A stage that welcomed everyone and now wants to say a proper goodbye.
