Auction of Souls

Auction of Souls

Lecture-Performance

In 1918, Ravished Armenia, the eyewitness account of then 18-year-old Aurora Mardiganian, which relentlessly described her ordeal through the Armenian genocide, triggered a wave of shock. Only 22 minutes and the script have survived from the film version with the title Auction of Souls that was created in 1919 with Aurora in the leading role. The copies disappeared just like Aurora, who died penniless and forgotten in Los Angeles at 92 years old. ARSINÉE KHANJIAN reconstructs the story of a desperate attempt to relate the indescribable.
