Born and raised in Vienna, Elena Schmidt has lived in Berlin for several years. Elena completed the acting studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and subsequently received theatre engagements at the Salzburg Festival, the Volkstheater in Vienna, the Schauspiel Hannover, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Deutsches Theater Berlin, among others. Elena has worked with Nurkan Erpulat, Marta Górnicka, Dries Verhouven, Suna Gürler, Sebastian Nübling, Sasha Marianna Salzmann and Paul Spittler, among others. Elena Schmidt has been part of the Gorki ensemble from the 2019/2020 season to the 2020/21 season. In addition to theatre work, Elena has appeared in several short and feature films, such as Prototypes by Doireann O`Malley, which won the Berlin Art Prize in 2018. Elena has been working regularly with various radio stations since 2011, in addition to the voiceover work since 2012 as a director and dramaturge in the field of radio plays. Elena also initiated the founding of the artists' collective Elevator Bitches (2019), which received the research grant Flausen+ in 2019, as well as the queer salon (2021), a network of queer theatre professionals. Since 2019, Elena has also been working as a freelance author.
