On January 19, Gorki will remember journalist Hrant Dink, who advocated for Turkish–Armenian reconciliation. He was murdered in 2007. Following the early release of his murderer, Arrested Justice takes a look at legal questions surrounding freedom of expression in Turkey, connecting the lives of Hrant Dink and Doğan Akhanlı. In Spiegelungen (Reflections), Miraz Bezar stages a fictional conversation between Dink and the man who murdered him. By incorporating quotes from the interrogation of Dink’s murderer, Ogün Samast, who was only16 years old at the time of the crime, Bezar creates a short performance on the contradictory court proceedings surrounding the murder. Doğan Akhanlı, a writer living in exile, was arrested while on holiday in Granada, Spain. Turkey had called for his detention via Interpol. Director Nuran David Calis has adapted his novel Verhaftung in Granada (Arrest in Granada), which tells of this summer and previous periods of imprisonment, into a staged reading.
