Ecological destruction in Istanbul and beyond

RESISTING RADIO I #JİNJİYANAZADÎ

***Türkçe below***

Due to its capital accumulation model and development policy, Turkey has turned into a machine that exploits rural and urban spaces without distinction. Gezi Park was defended against this exploitation by a social will centered on environmental justice and seems to have survived for now. In the second part of our radio program, we will focus on Istanbul and beyond, Anatolia and especially the Kurdish geography, with dams and hydroelectric power plants, mines, quarries and other tiles paving the way for ecologically destructive development. in this episode we will focus on 4 parts of Kurdistan.

Kurdistan is a geography located in the Mesopotamian plain within the borders drawn by the Tigris, Euphrates and Aras rivers in the Middle East geography and divided into 4 parts 100 years ago in a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, without even its own representatives present, across Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria. Since then, the geography of the Kurdish people, defined as Arabs, Persians and Turks, has been destroyed by dams, forests burned, underground resources exploited and land confiscated. In this session, we will once again look at the geography of Kurdistan through the eyes of artists and activists. We will talk about what has been destroyed in the past 100 years and the methods of resistance against it.
