UMRU / unrest is the latest, grittiest, and most sophisticated album from Daniel Kahn, a Yiddish troubadour who has worked as a songwriter for the Gorki for many years. Together with his longtime collaborators, master violinist Jake Shulman-Ment from New York and Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Christian Dawid, the musician presents traditional and contemporary songs, translated by Kahn or newly composed. UMRU / unrest is an alarming and necessary statement, a musical call for »Radical Yiddish Autonomy«, a robust, independent Yiddish culture that takes a transnational stand against fascism and violence.
