In his new novel, Nuran David Calis tells the story of a director named Ufuk, who grows up as the child of Armenian-Turkish asylum seekers in Germany in the 1990s. As an adult, he becomes a director, processing his own childhood experiences in an Odysseus production. His girlfriend Johanna comes from wealth, where Ufuk is seen as exotic. Everything seems to be just right, but soon enough politics pushes its way into art and social tensions eat into relationships.
