Diddy vs. Cassie, Mr East vs. Kesha, Rochester vs. Jane Eyre – the cycle of toxic patrons, lovers and employers continues. Drawing on motifs from the classic 1847 novel Jane Eyre, Nairi Hadodo sets off on a venture of rewriting. Here, she weaves the sisterly thread into new transgenerational semantic spaces of kinship. In her parasitic narration, Hadodo sifts through the textures of this Gothic romance novel and embarks on a journey of retribution against revered toxic idols. Hailed motherfuckers. With a variety of songs, elements of dance, and with a sharp observation of our current practice of combining power and love, Hadodo allows herself, in feminist tradition, to continue and radicalize the ideas of Charlotte Brontëë.
