Boris Acket

Boris Acket (1988) is a Dutch contemporary artist specializing in multidisciplinary projects that intertwine music, installation art, performance, and film. Initially rooted in electronic music and club culture, Acket's practice has evolved to challenge the boundaries between sound art, music, and performance spaces, often blurring distinctions between exhibitions and immersive experiences.

In 2020, encounters with acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton and sociologist Riyan van den Born influenced Acket's shift towards recontextualizing nature within art spaces. His recent works offer sanctuary and ritualistic encounters, while subtly hinting at dystopian narratives concerning our future interactions with the natural world.

Acket's installations have been showcased at venues and festivals such as Mutek MX, Milan Salone del Mobile, Paris Fashion Week, Dark Matter Berlin, Lost Art Festival Berlin, Stedelijk Museum, NXT Museum, Lowlands, STRP, Holland Festival, Het Hem, Fiber Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, De School, Down The Rabbit Hole, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Van Gogh Museum, Frame Lab, and DGTL Festival. His work has also been featured in publications like Designboom, Resident Advisor, NRC, Volkskrant, Parool, Subbacultcha, and 3voor12.

Collaborations form a significant aspect of Acket's practice. He is one half of Working Titles, whose 2019 LP De Tuin comprises improvisations reconfigured into meditative sonic vignettes. His debut album Home (2021), created in collaboration with visual artist Vincent Rang, further exemplifies his interdisciplinary approach. Acket is also part of the Dutch artist collective De Lichting. His collaborators include Sabine Marcelis, Gordon Hempton, 4DSOUND, Colin Benders, Jameszoo, Dekmantel, Rogier van der Zwaag, Botter Paris, Methamorphosis Dance (ES), Joep Beving, Oceanic, De School, Robbert van der Bildt, and Maarten Vos.

Through his innovative fusion of sound, light, and motion, Boris Acket continues to explore the interplay between control and surrender in both natural and constructed worlds, offering audiences immersive experiences that challenge conventional boundaries of art and performance.
