Ana Romas was born in 1989 and grew up in a small village on the banks of the Irtysh River in Kazakhstan. As a young teenager, she emigrated to Germany with her mother, where, after staying in various emergency shelters, she settled in a small town on the Lower Rhine.
On her blog Russian Raclette and the Instagram channel of the same name, Ana Romas bridges the gap between the post-Soviet cuisine of her childhood and her current life in Germany; her cooking style is both a tribute to her roots and a modern experiment. Ana Romas has since published two cookbooks. As a freelance writer, she contributes regularly to ZEIT Campus and the magazine ZEIT Wochenmarkt, where she combines social issues with culinary depth. In her monthly segment Nachbars Küche on WDR 5, she captivates a wide audience with her insightful, personal, and appetizing reflections on food culture, as well as stories from the cuisines and cultures she has brought with her.
