THRESHOLDS / OBJECTS THAT TELL STORIES

Video Installation

For Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, Silvina Der Meguerditchian’s works Thresholds and Objects That Tell Stories will be shown in the Kiosk at the Maxim Gorki Theatre.

THRESHOLDS
Using »The stack« as leitmotif, the first chapter of the novel Thresholds by Krikor Beledian, this film aims to reflect on 20th century photography and its role in human cultural and family heritage, among many other things. The text, one of the literary jewels of Western Armenia, questions the influence of the photographed images on whether or not the family history becomes one's own flesh, in this case a family of survivors of the Armenian Genocide (1915).

Armenian with German surtitles

OBJECTS THAT TELL STORIES
In Objects That Tell Stories, an ongoing workshop series, Der Meguerditchian works with a variety of communities around the world on developing new perspectives on the history of their ancestors. This video is based on interviews the artist conducted with women from Vienna’s Armenian community during the 2015 workshop The Texture of Memory, which was part of the Mobilizing Memory: Women Witnessing exhibition in the Kunsthalle Exnergasse. The film material is presented in the Open Digital Archive category at Houshamadyan, an online project dedicated to the reconstruction of Ottoman-Armenian city and village life.

Armenian, Turkish, German with German surtitles.
