Raise The Voice

The relationship between auditory and visual presence in public spaces and political power is a constant focus of Nasan Tur's artistic practice. His works present experimental schemes, which highlight the symbolic components of social discourse and reveal the intricacies of their mechanisms. In his performance entitled Raise the Voice, the artist explores the potential for individual action within the confines of today's oppressive political climate. He pushes the physical boundaries of his voice by uttering the sounds of some letters and accumulating them with the assistance of an amplifier. Ultimately, the audience realises that these letters form the forename of Osman Kavala: a prominent civil rights activist and the founder of Anadolu Kültür who has been imprisoned in Turkey since 18 October 2017.
