Music as Collective Memory of Language

Lecture Performance by and with Edis Galushi, Music: Dragan Cordes (guitar), Uwe Werner (violin)

In his lecture-performance, writer and linguist Edis Galushi deals with the Romani language as one of the most valuable assets of the Roma in Kosovo. At present, however, the Roma’s language is classified as endangered because the younger Roma generation often perceives this language to be a relic of the past that’s only spoken by old people. In his presentation Galushi revives the beauty of the old Roma songs by Roma from Prizren (Kosovo) and the authenticity of the Romani used in these songs, illustrating the power of language within the creation of collective values. Musical accompaniment from Dragan Cordes (guitar) and Uwe Werner (violin).
