IN DER ZUKUNFT SCHWELGEN

The protest movements in North Africa and the Middle East have one thing in common: the desire for a dignified life. The essays in the anthology Reveling in the Future, edited by Sandra Hetzl and the Heinrich Böll Foundation, are devoted to the struggles for this and raise complex questions in the process:

What if life and dignity are mutually exclusive? How does one continue to dream of shaping one's own future in the face of political inertia? What matters in life? Abraham Zeitoun (artist, Lebanon) and Alia Mosallam (cultural historian, Egypt) explore the uneasy elements in their texts. They confront defeat, loss, the curse of survival in exile, with the power of chants, prayers and curses.

Reading followed by a discussion in English and German. A cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Sandra Hetzl, and Khan Aljanub.
