Torben Schumacher graduated from high school in Jever and completed his civil service at the Landesbühne Niedersachsen Nord theater. After working as an assistant director, he studied German language and literature and media studies at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. In 2006, he returned to the Landesbühne in Wilhelmshaven as head of marketing, press spokesman, and venue manager. In 2013, he joined the management team as administrative director and authorized signatory. Torben Schumacher initially took over as acting managing director at the Gorki for the 2023/2024 season, and on 1/August 2024, he was appointed managing director on a permanent basis.
