Tigran Hamasyan

Tigran Hamasyan is a visionary pianist and composer, fusing jazz, Armenian folk, and progressive rock with a boundary-pushing approach. Born in Gyumri, Armenia, in 1987, he won the Montreux Jazz Festival’s piano competition at 16 and the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition at 19, earning praise from legends like Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. His genre-defying discography includes Mockroot (2015), the sacred choral project Luys i Luso (2015), and the jazz standards album StandArt (2022), reflecting his deep artistic curiosity. In 2024, he unveiled The Bird of a Thousand Voices, an ambitious concept album and transmedia theater piece blending music, myth, and interactive digital art. Hamasyan’s innovative sound, described by NPR as »unlike anything else«, has captivated audiences worldwide. Whether performing solo or collaborating with artists like Dhafer Youssef or Joshua Redman, he continues to push musical boundaries, reshaping jazz and folk traditions for the 21st century.
