Şehnaz Dost is a freelance author and literary mediator. Her first novel, ruh, was published in 2024. When asked what her debut is about, she sometimes answers: rebirth, and sometimes: the language of the diaspora. Dost studied German language and literature, comparative literature, and media culture analysis. She initially wanted to become a journalist, then a scholar, and finally began writing prose. Her work has been recognized with a New Books in German Recommendation and grants from the Literary Colloquium Berlin, the Kunststiftung NRW, and the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, among others. Dost's short prose and poetry can be found in the anthology Worte wie Honig - eine Dankesschrift für Mevlüde Genç, the magazine Sprache im technischen Zeitalter, and the literature podcast Let's Call it a Comeback, among others. In the summer of 2025, Şehnaz Dost spent several months in Istanbul working on her second novel; she otherwise lives in Cologne.
