Murat Özbank is an author, translator, academic and part-time activist. He taught political theory at Istanbul Bilgi University and Humboldt University in Berlin. Özbank deals with in democracy, democratization and, recently, the rise of right-wing populisms around the world, including Turkey. Gezi Ruhu ve Politik Teori (The Spirit of Gezi and Political Theory) is the book that he most enjoyed writing. He thinks that »hope« is a scarce, but fortunately still available resource and looks forward to walking the democratic path which has first been opened at Gezi and which, he hopes, will re-open after the May 14, 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections.
