Marysol del Castillo

Marysol del Castillo, born in Berlin in 1970, first studied costume design with Maren Christensen at the University for Applied Art and Media. After her formal education she worked for one year as assistant at Frank Baumbauer’s Schauspielhaus in Hamburg where she also implemented her own initial projects. She followed stage designer Anna Viebrock from Hamburg to Christoph Marthaler’s Schauspielhaus Zürich. With “Hamlet” she created her first major costume design there for Christoph Schlingensief. Further collaboration with Schlingensief followed, including “Atta Atta” at the Volksbühne in Berlin. Since then Marysol del Castillo has created costume designs in cooperation with Nicolas Stemann, as well as with Stefan Pucher, Tom Kühnel, Sebastian Baumgarten, Falk Richter, and others. She worked at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, the Deutsche Theater Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Schaubühne, the Grand Theatre National in Brussels, the Schauspielhaus Köln, the Burgtheater Vienna, the Schauspielhaus Dresden, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, and at other renowned stages. Numerous productions in which she has been involved were invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. In 2011 Marysol del Castillo served as visiting professor at the Hanover University and as mentor at the UDK Berlin.
