Marlene Blumert studied directing for film and television at the Film University Babelsberg, producing several short films, as well as two features, which were shown at international festivals. She has worked as a video artist for theatre and opera productions since 2003. Various engagements took her to the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, where she created the videos for productions directed by Andreas Kriegenburg and Christiane Pohle. At the Deutsches Theater Berlin, for which she also produced the trailers from 2014-2017, she collaborated with Jürgen Kuttner and Tom Kühnel (set design: Jo Schramm). She also worked with Tillmann Köhler at the Oper Frankfurt (Xerxes, 2017 and Bianca e Falliero, 2020). She directed the underwater operas Die versunkene Stadt and elementaria and worked as a live video artist at the International Gluck Festspiele in Nuremberg. She began creating school film and theatre projects with children and young people in 2018. In 2019 she was the co-director of Stadt unter Einfluss, a production from Christiane Rösinger at the Hebbel am Ufer Berlin.
