Gioia Magelli

Gioia Magelli was born in Heidelberg in 2001 and grew up in Florence, Dresden and Dortmund, where she began dancing at a young age. In her training at PUCK e.V. an der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden and the Modern Dance Center Dortmund she gained experience as a dancer on stage and as a dance pedagogic assistant. As one of the heads of the assistance programme she was able to realize her own projects, choreographies and took on administrative tasks. In a dancer’s manner she learned techniques following the examples of Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey.
During this period, Gioia Magelli completed her first internship at the Schauspielhaus Dortmund in 2018 and after finishing school she went to the Volkstheater Vienna to do an internship alongside Kay Voges in 2021. She then moved to Berlin at the beginning of 2022 and worked as a guest assistant director at Berliner Ensemble, collaborating with directors such as Suse Wächter and Kay Voges.
She also published her self-written texts for the first time in 2023 as part of the production ‘The Father’ by Paolo Magelli. These texts were used by the band KOIKOI as lyrics for the music of the play and are now included in the band's permanent repertoire.
Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Gioia Magelli has been a permanent member of the Maxim Gorki Theater as a prompter, working with the directors Sebastian Baumgarten, Hakan Savaş Mican, Oliver Frljić, Nurkan Erpulat, Sebastian Nübling and Christian Weise.
