Christian Weise was born in 1973 in Eisleben. He studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and initially worked as an actor and puppeteer. He switched to directing in 2001 and has created productions for well-known public theatres in Germany and Zurich, as well as the Salzburg Festival. At the Gorki he has staged Alles Schwindel, Elizaveta Bam, Hamlet, Queen Lear, Drei Schwestern and Der Untertan. His close collaborators include composer and musician Jens Dohle and artist Julia Oschatz, as well as choreographer Alan Barnes for his music theatre productions. He has been a lecturer for acting and contemporary puppetry at Ernst Busch since 2004.
