Ariana Robey-Lawrence

Ariana Robey-Lawrence (a.k.a. The Neighbourhood Character) was born in Berkeley in 1990. From 2008 to 2012, she studied art, art history, film and literature (BA) at Amherst College. After a semester abroad in Berlin (2010), she moved to Berlin in 2012 and completed a master's degree in visual and media anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin. In her research, she investigates the creative and political strategies used by underprivileged, feminist, electronic musicians whose efforts to create a broader feminist-leftist political dialogue in the community are also reflected in their creative practice. She's currently a PhD student in the Department of Media & Communications at Goldsmiths College.
She's also active as a DJ in the Berlin club scene and hosts a monthly radio show on Berlin Community Radio. In cooperation with an international group of artists from different disciplines, she's involved with diverse interdisciplinary projects as a composer.
