CEMENT BEOGRAD (CEMENT BELGRADE)

Cement is a text in turmoil: starting from the revolutionary upheavals in the USSR in the 1920s, via the struggle between the emancipatory aspirations of its characters and their anchoring in traditional family relationships, it turns to the love relationship of the main characters Dasha and Gleb Chumalov. In this way, the influence of social relations is broken down to the most intimate level.

Inspired by the East German playwright Heiner Müller, Sebastijan Horvats' production, which he developed with Milan Ramšak Marković, is set in present-day Belgrade. The relationship between trauma and memory, political dementia, as well as the conflicts inscribed in our bodies are some of the motifs that characterise this work. The play won the »Mira Trailović« Grand Prix at the 54th BITEF Festival, and Miodrag Krstovic won the »Raša Plaović « award in the »Best Actor« category of the Belgrade Theatres 2020/2021.
