Simon Stephens

Simon Stephens was born in Stockport/South Manchester in 1971. He studied history at York University and worked as a barman and DJ before he began teaching English, as well as theatre and media studies, at the Eastbrook School in Dagenham. In 1998 his play Bluebird celebrated its world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in London. His works have received numerous awards, including the 2001 Pearson Award for best new play for Port. He’s been chosen as best foreign playwright in the critics’ poll conducted by German theatre journal Theater heute five times. The junges theater Basel’s production of his play Morning was presented at the Gorki as a guest performance.
