Necati Öziri, born on 02.12.88, right when the 27th Space Shuttle mission, the Atlantis (OV-104), was launching, in Datteln - only accessible with the 232 bus from Recklinghausen main station, warning: Departs only once every hour on Sundays! – has been a German citizen since he was 18. He studied philosophy, German and contemporary German literature in Bochum, Istanbul, Olsztyn and Berlin. He received a fellowship from the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation, taught formal logic at the Ruhr-University Bochum, and is a bitter enemy of cold, Styrofoam, SCART cables and biographies. From the beginning of the 2014/15 season to the end of 2017, Öziri was a dramaturg at and the artistic director of Studio Я. On 20 May 2017, his play GET DEUTSCH OR DIE TRYIN’ celebrated its world premiere at the Gorki, making waves in Berlin and garnering an invitation to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt festival for new plays in 2018. Öziri has been a dramaturg at the Berliner Festspiele since the 2017/18 season, where he directs the International Forum at the Theatertreffen festival. His latest play, Die Verlobung in St. Domingo - Ein Widerspruch, celebrated its world premiere at the Schauspielhaus Zürich and is currently part of the Gorki’s repertoire in a production directed by Sebastian Nübling.
