Lars Wittershagen

Lars Wittershagen was born in Schwerte in 1969. From 1992-1998, he studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim, where he also worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Media and Theatre until 2000. At the same time he was also active as a theatre musician in the independent theatre scene. Wittershagen and director Sebastian Nübling have collaborated closely since 1998. Together with set designer Muriel Gerstner, they created productions at theatres in Basel, Stuttgart, Hanover and Munich. They were awarded the 3sat prize in 2007 for their production of Dido and Aeneas at the Theater Basel.
Wittershagen is currently working with the following directors: Sebastian Nübling, Hakan Savaş Mican, Karin Henkel, Bastian Kraft, the Ene-Liis Semper / Tiit Ojasoo duo, Simon Stone and Lars-Ole Walburg. In addition to the Maxim Gorki Theatre, he also works on productions at Hamburg's Thalia Theater and Schauspielhaus, Zürich's Schauspielhaus, Berlin's Deutsches Theater and Hanover's Schauspiel. He's also involved in teaching at institutions such as the International Forum 2011 in Berlin, the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich, the Theaterakademie Hamburg and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
At the Gorki he worked on the productions GLAUBE LIEBE HOFFNUNG (directed by Hakan Savaş Mican), GET DEUTSCH OR DIE TRYIN‘DIE VERLOBUNG IN ST. DOMINGO – EIN WIDERSPRUCH by Necati Öziri against Heinrich von Kleist and most recently in the production of Sibylle Bergs Und sicher ist mit mir die Welt verschwunden (all three directed by Sebastian Nübling).
