Aslı Erdoğan

In her works, internationally acclaimed Turkish novelist and journalist Aslı Erdoğan inquires into the Other in the context of the Turkish society and global developments. Having initially gained a degree in computer science and physics, she gave up this career in order to focus on her writing. In 2010, she was awarded the most prestigious literature award in Turkey. Following the failed coup in Turkey, she was arrested along with 22 other journalists because of her regular contributions for the newspaper Özgur Gündem, and conditionally released only in December 2016. She received numerous human rights and peace awards, for instance the Erich-Maria-Remarque-Friedenspreis and the Prix Simone de Beauvoir por la liberté des femmes. She lives and works in Berlin.
