Edgar Eckert, born in Toronto, grew up in Basel and began his journey on stage at the Junges Theater Basel. He studied acting at a private acting school in Paris and at the University of Music and Theatre »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« in Leipzig. From 2009 to 2013 Eckert was a member of the ensemble at the Centraltheater Leipzig and then he went to Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus for two seasons from 2013/14. Between 2015 and 2020 he was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and from 2020 to 2023 at the Theater Basel. Edgar Eckert has been a member of the Gorki ensemble since the 2024/25 season and can be seen as Josef K. in Oliver Frljić's production of Kafka's PROZESS, in BRASCH – DAS ALTE GEHT NICHT UND DAS NEUE AUCH NICHT, directed by Lena Brasch, and in DONATION by Atom Egoyan. In the 2025/26 season, he will also appear in Nazanin Noori's production of TODESFUGE, based on poems by Paul Celan, and in Lena Brasch's production of EAST SIDE STORY – A GERMAN JEWSICAL.
