Bato Čengić

Bahrudin 'Bato' Čengić (1931-2007) was a Bosnian film director and screenwriter from the former Yugoslavia. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Čengić filmed scenes in the city during the Siege of Sarajevo, which he converted in a documentary called Mona Lisa from Sarajevo (1998).
His film Life of a Shock Force Worker (1972) was restored and presented at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival. The film casts a satirical light on Yugoslav society, with a special light thrown on the ideological figure of the shock-force worker who sacrifices himself for the collective cause.
