Tamer Yiğit

Tamer Yiğit, born in Berlin in 1974, is a director, writer, actor, and musician. He rose to prominence through his collaboration with director Thomas Arslan, a leading figure of the Berlin School, in whose films Geschwister (1997) and Dealer (1998) he played the lead role. Numerous other productions, including international ones, followed. At the same time, Yiğit developed his own film and theater projects, both as a director and as a writer. His feature film Karaman premiered in 2012 in the “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” section of the Berlinale. With his theater work, he was active on multiple occasions at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer, including during Matthias Lilienthal’s tenure as artistic director. His play Warngedicht was awarded the Brüder-Grimm-Prize in 2009. Music also forms an important part of his multifaceted artistic practice. Since the 1980s, he has collaborated as a beatmaker and DJ on numerous hip-hop albums and played guitar in hardcore punk bands. In 2020, he was a fellow at the Tarabya Cultural Academy in Istanbul. He lives and works in Berlin.
