Mickey Mahar

Mickey Mahar, born in Milwaukee in 1989, trained in Irish dance throughout his childhood and attended Milwaukee High School of the Arts. He subsequently studied Gender Studies and Critical Theory at Vassar College.

Since 2012, Mickey Mahar has worked internationally with artists including Gillian Walsh, Anne Imhof, Maria Hassabi, Miguel Gutierrez, Adam Linder, Ryan McNamara, Joan Jonas, Pope L. and Leila Hekmat. He has performed at art institutions and in international exhibitions including the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Palais de Tokyo, Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Hamburger Bahnhof, documenta 14 and the 2017 Venice Biennale, where he appeared in Anne Imhof’s Faust at the German Pavilion.

Mickey Mahar lives and works in Berlin.

Since the 2026/27 season, Mickey Mahar has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Maxim Gorki Theater.
