Meg Stuart

Meg Stuart, born in New Orleans in 1965, is a choreographer and dancer. After gaining her first artistic experiences in a family theatre context, she studied dance at New York University and continued her training at Movement Research in New York. During this period, she became active in the New York’s contemporary dance scene. In 1991, at the invitation of the Belgian Klapstuk Festival, she created Disfigure Study, her first full-length piece, which marked the beginning of her choreographic career in Europe. In 1994, she founded the Brussels-based company Damaged Goods, with which she has since created more than thirty productions. Her works are often developed in collaboration with artists from a wide range of disciplines and move are situated at the intersection of dance and theatre. Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods collaborates regularly with Kaaitheaterin Brussels and HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin. Since 2014, she has been a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin.

In 2006, she received the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST for her piece Replacement.In 2012, she was awarded the Konrad Wolf Prize by the Akademie der Künste Berlin, and in 2018 the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale of Dance.
